IIT Director’s term extended

 GUWAHATI, June 27 – Professor Gautam Barua has been given another five-year term as Sirector, IIT Guwahati. His term will now come to end on June 4, 2013.

Prof Barua joined IIT Guwahati from IIT Kanpur in May 1995 and he has been involved with IIT Guwahati since the first batch of students joined. He had taken charge as director in March 2003 from Prof D N Buragohain, the founder director. IIT Guwahati has seen a doubling of its student strength in the last five years (to 2400) and the plan is to increase the strength to 4000 by 2012. This was stated in a press release.
