Hi, friends,
I'm a lecturer in Bengali at Tinsukia College and executive editor of PRAGYAN, a quarterly academic journal published by the teachers' unit . The Journal is unique in the region in the sense that no any college publish such a journal.
Each and every college of the state and the region have there own student's magazine, some might have occasional souvenir . but ours one is getting published regularly since 2003. Recently with the 5th year and 3rd issue the journal has completed it successful five years of existence. The next issue is about to going press. Three issue and more than 2500 copies in each year ! Recently we surveyed our readership among the students, though we have regular reader and writer in the whole academic arena of the NE region , we found with excitement that three fourth of the students read the journal regularly.
Will you not be happy to be party with such a venture? May we reprint your text with proper declaration ? We'll be happy if you friends extend your helping hand to such a venture.
With anticipation
Yours Sushanta Kar.

Number of NRIs from Assam, NE in US insignificant
By A Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 29 – The ‘Indian Diaspora’ has played a major role in shaping India’s political and economic history. They have played a key role in the current robust foreign exchange position of our country. This was the observation made by Ramgopal Sarangapani, a senior analyst of the Texas Workforce Commission, Austin, Texas, USA while delivering a lecture on ‘Entrepreneurship – The American Way of Life’ at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Management here recently.
According to a Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS) press release here, Sarangapani, a post-graduate in economics from Gauhati University, who did his MBA from Sam Houston State University, Texas and a specialist in data warehouse and database development systems analysis and design, however, maintained that the number of NRIs from Assam or the North East, in comparison to states like Kerala, Punjab and Gujarat, was very insignificant and of relatively recent origin.
The NRIs from the State and form other parts of the NE region are mostly professionals and of upper middle class background. Therefore, it would be unrealistic to expect huge investment from them. But since they comprise mostly professionals and trained experts, the NE region can expect a leveraging its growth rate by harnessing this ‘knowledge bank’, said Sarangapani.
He observed that these NRIs could act as catalysts in the development of the region through knowledge and skill transfer and facilitating investment by large foreign corporate houses.
Sarangapani delivered the lecture, which was organised in collaboration with the FASS and dwelt on the various aspects of creating and sustaining successful enterprises. It needs mention here that small enterprise sector in the USA is a dominant sector.

Subject: [Assam] Some pics of Assam
Hi Bikas
I am forwarding some pics.. unfortunately I don't have too many. All
these pics were taken during March-April 2006.
It's only recently that I got more interested in photography.
Would feel happy if you can use them in your web in any way. Pics are
better to be seen than to be hidden in my PC :-). Although I make a
point of printing my good digital images.
Next time I visit Assam, I will get more.
