it. After all, it only happens in Assam."

A crime is surely a crime. Retribution ought to follow. But if we in Assam deserve crime against us in larger scale and there should be no retribution, then by what sense of justice do we mete out retribution to or condemnation of petty crimes that are ultimately direct and/or indirect result of the bigger crimes against Assam. Jews were killed by Nazis; did they deserve it? Israel and the US bomb innocents on the plea of fight against terror; do those people deserve it? The North East has been used as hinterland for long, why should we deserve it? Say, we do not have a strong lobby at the centre, does it give license for someone to loot us? Does the law of the land say that? If due to underdevelopment and unemployment some people out of desperation take to theft and robbery, how can we say they should be punished when we condone the loot on us as god ordained? We have been indoctrinated to be servile to the authority, however rapacious. In
 fact, more authoritarian the authority, the ideologies of the victor and the victim merge. The victim sings paens in glory of the master and demeans himself. It is always easier to humiliate the weak: hola gosot bagi kuthar. Such weakness usually has a history that can be looked into.
