Friends:
Congratulations to Jayanta, Uttam and Biju for finally making it happen. This is a very exciting news for all of us in the North East India and for all the Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters. Needless to say, the participation of 3 members from the North East India in the WALK in Australia will not only bring an awareness of Gandhi but also will bring a awareness of North east India in Australians and will boost the positive image of North East India around the world. It should be noted that these 3 members will in fact represent India in this 5 day WALK that will be led by Australian Gandhian Mr. Garvin Brown. The WALK will start on 17th September will cover a total distance roughly about 73 Km. Details of the WALK may be found in the attached Press Release from Garvin Brown in Australia. Garvin Brown is already known to the people of the Nortyh East when he came all the way to Assam and made a 'padajatra' in Guahati in March of this year for the cause of the underpriviledged children in the North East.
Along with the team members, and Mr Garvin Brown, we would like to thank our FASS USA members, especially Ankur Bora and Partha Gogoi who made significant personal contributions to make the event possible. We also thank Mr. Kamalesh Goswami, Mr Hemanta Doloi, Mr Rangam Rajkhowa and other NEIs in Australia who have contacted us welcoming the team with offer of help and cooperation to the visiting team during their trip. It is possible that the team may also visit Sydney. We will keep you posted of the progress of the WALK and other events in Australia. FASS is also preparing a website under FASS where all the information about the WALK will be posted.
In order to make the WALK more meaningful for the North East India, Ajanta and I would like to make a personal pledge as follows:
THE PLEDGE:
We pledge to donate Rs. 125.00 for each kilometer to be walked by each team member in Australia. Thus the total distance of the WALK being 73 km for each member, the total distance to be walked by team will be 219 km. Our pledge will be Rs.125 for each of 219 km for total Rs. 27,375.00.
This pledge is being made on the following basis:
a) We will donate the money through FASS Ghy Account.
b) We would request FASS Guwahati to distribute the money equally among the five under venture schools in North East India as noted below:
1) Parijat Academy, Pamohi
2) Pragyalaya, Titabar
3) Auxilium Umpohilew Jingsted, Nogpoh, Meghalaya
4) Asha Darshan, Tamulpur
5) Siddhartha Kendra Vidyalay School, N. Lakhimpur
We would also like to encourage other individuals to take the opportunity and make pledge for these schools. If anyone is interested to make any amount of pledge in Indian Rupees for the schools, they can do through FASS, Guawahti. If anybody wants to donate money in any other Foreign Currency, please let us know. We will handle it through our FASS USA office.

Rajenda,
Our walk started today. It was in the morning at 9 o clock from the Apex part, Caboolture. At the starting there were not too many people but as we made progress, and entered a school, there were a handful of people waiting for us. The school teachers and students interacted with us.Garvin in his speech delighted the students. We talked about Parijat Academy, FASS, Asha darshan etc. Then we walked about 18km upto deception Bay as per schedule. In between some interaction took place with the public. We also went to the office of the Brisbane Indian Times, Biju was interviewed for a Brisbane FM radio. Earlier I gave an interview to Brisbane FM radio which was brodcasted live.
Detail report will floow soon.
Regards
Jayanta
