We met this kind and caring lady about 2 years ago at the Old Age home she
had established. May her soul rest in peace

Suchibrata Raichoudhury no more

GUWAHATI, Dec 2: Noted literateur, singer, composer and the first woman ACS
officer of Assam Suchibrata Raichoudhury passed away today at a private
nursing home due to old age ailments. She was 80 years of age at the time of
her death.

Born on September 1,1929, Suchibrata Raicho-udhury  was the first woman ACS
officer of the State. In an illustrious professional career, she served as
the Chief Executive Officer of the Khadi Board, Deputy Director of the
Panchayat Department, Chief Editor of the District Gazette, Deputy Secretary
of the State Education Department and Director of the Social Welfare Board.

In 1992, the Assamese society in the US had recognized her pioneering work
in the field of women empowerment in Assam. She was honoured with the Pabina
Saikia Award in 2000, Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001, Swati Joymoti Trust
Award and Updenranath Memorial Award in 2007. The president of the State
branch of ASHI, she was also the founder secretary of Ambikagiri
Raicho-udhury Memorial Trust and founder secretary of Kanya Mahavidyalaya.
She had also set up the first old age home at Patharquary in the State.

A host of leaders and well-wishers gathered at the GNRC hospital to pay
their last respects to the departed soul. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, AGP
president Chandra Mohan Patowary, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar
Mahanta, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, APCC president Bhubaneshwar
Kalita, NSUI president Dr Jai Prakash Das, AASU, AJYCP, Axom Xahitya Xabha
and Save Guwahati, Build Guwahati (SGBG) have offered their condolences to
the bereaved family.
