Gogoi denies move to privatise engg colleges

  GUWAHATI, Dec 3 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Government had not made any move to privatize the two engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes in the State under the Societies Registration Act. Gogoi said this during a press conference today.


Gogoi
further said that the present controversy regarding privatization was
due to a mispropaganda carried out by some vested circles and thatthe Government has not taken any decision on it. 

“We
only wanted to grant more financial and academic autonomy to these
institutions but if they do not want it is fine with us,” he said. 

Meanwhile,
representatives from Assam Engineering College and the nine polytechnic
institutes had a meeting with the Chief Minister, wherein Gogoi is said
to have assured that the proposal would not be implemented, a press
release stated.
