On October 9, 2008, Mr. Lohit Datta-Barua stood on the summit of Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, waving the Assamese gamosa, symbolizing the universal truth that if we set our goal towards achievement, we can achieve the unthinkable. Reaching the top of the summit is a tremendous accomplishment in itself, but for Datta-Barua the reach goes far beyond the arduous physical achievement. He did much more than that.

Africa in all its magnificence and wild beauty stands out tall and empowering yet the harsh realities faced by its people stands out like a sour thumb. It’s so real and raw that one cannot but take action in his own way. Perhaps that is what led Datta-Barua to volunteer for a charity called Children’s Hunger Fund and he was able to raise close to $3000.
It's true that one person cannot do everything. But each person can do something. And together we can solve problems and try to make lives better for those around us. Following is the inspiring and fascinating story of Lohit Datta-Barua, an exuberant individual who followed an extraordinary path and has left an indelible mark.
