The richness or poverty of any language is best judged upon by the vocabulary it possesses and that vocabulary must be written down methodologically, in the form of a dictionary. The Assamese language has been here for the last one millennium but unfortunately there has been no Comprehensive, Scientific and Encyclopaedic, Unilingual dictionary of the language so far. The hitherto published dictionaries comprise up to 37,000 words, while it is estimated that the total number of words spoken and written in Assamese is around 2,00,000. The ‘Assamese National Dictionary’ is a noble endeavour to accomplish the onerous and unenviable task of collecting, defining and systematizing each and every Assamese word. Please visit
