Protest meet on killing of media person 

Guwahati: A meeting of journalists and media persons of Guwahati expressed shock and anguish over the brutal killing of Hemanta Sharma, an employee of The Assam Tribune. Hemanta, 31, was murdered by miscreants on the night of Dec 25 after he was called out from his residence at Nijarapar by the killers. His dead body was found in the next morning near his residence.
The protest meet, jointly organized by Journalists Action Committee, Assam, Journalists Federation of Assam, Journalists’ Forum, Assam, Assam Tribune Employees Union and Assam Photo Journalists Association,  the meeting resolved to demand a compensation for the victim family.
The meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to the Director General of Police tomorrow and also to the Chief Minister of Assam urging to ensure protection to the media fraternity of the State.
Before the meeting, one minute silence was observed to pay homage to the departed soul.
