What should have been the action by the police?
a. Give them a ride (Lamarque and Texas City are close to each other)
b. Get them a cab to go home
c. Detain them for the night and let them go next morning
d. Do as they did (Charge them with public intoxication)
It was prudent of the drunk couple to ask for help in stead of driving and
causing a wreck.. Is it really public intoxication because they came to a police
station drunk? I don't think they drank there.

Police: Intoxicated couple asks cops for ride06:34 AM CST on Friday, February
13, 2009By TJ Aulds / The Daily News LA MARQUE — When a couple walked in to
the La Marque police station to ask for a ride Wednesday night, the man ended up
in jail and the woman was taken to the hospital after she passed out in the
lobby.
Police Chief Richard Price said the pair came into the station about 10:15
p..m. and asked to speak to an officer.
While the couple waited in the lobby, a police dispatcher monitoring security
video reported the couple appeared to be “highly intoxicated.” The
dispatcher said the woman was unable to stand.
When Officer Forrest Gandy went to the lobby, he reported the woman was on the
floor and in such bad shape she required emergency medical attention. The
28-year-old Hitchcock woman was taken to Mainland Medical Center in Texas City,
police said.
The man was arrested and initially charged with public intoxication. While he
was being booked, Gandy reported finding a bag of marijuana.
Michael Carl Bell, 22, of Texas City, was charged with drug possession and held
on a $1,500 bond.
In his report on the incident, Gandy noted that when he asked Bell why the
couple came into the station, the man responded, “We were hoping a police
officer would give us a courtesy ride back to Texas City.”
