Udayon Mishra's article is so incisively refreshing. We have all learnt to embrace a deathly kind of insouciance which cocoons us from everything that challenges the human spirit. In such a situation what is 'good' is not allowed to exist leave alone to thrive. Ethnocentricism which passes off as patriotism in most of the tribal states is actually choking us. Look at Meghalaya where a government is almost brought to its feet on account of the appointment of two very qualified non-tribals in two minority colleges which are known for excellence in education. Both the candidates had qualifications which the locals did not have. But because of the threat from lumpen elements like the KSU (which incidentally does not have even one student in its fold)the FKJGP and the SSSS, the two teachers were very insiduosuly coerced to resign. My heart weeps at this injustice but my fellow- Khasis think I am a little crazy. Maybe craziness needs to be redefined.
