I am sure netters have heard of Siam.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&defl=en&q=define:siam&ei=aRO1SdumEKOgM6fG2fIE&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

In the site above Siamese is defined as: " Siamese - Thai: a branch
of the Tai languages"

Note the name Tai ( not Thai) .

Could there be some connection here with the Tai-Ahoms?

Could the name Assam / Asam have some connection to Siam?

I believe someone familiar with Thai language once reported here that
in Siamese 'assam' means 'thekera' ( Gamboze--Garcinia
xanthochymus- False mangosteen). Is it true?

Of course these have already been roundly examined by far more
knowledgeable people. Seems like there is no conclusive proof. Or is
there?
