DU to introduce B Tech degree from this year

DIBRUGARH, March 22 – Starting the new academic session this year, the
Dibrugarh University will be offering four-year BTech degree. For this
purpose, an Institute of Engineering & Technology has been set up
on the varsity campus. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr KK Deka
said necessary clearances from the AICTE have been acquired.
On
offer would be courses like Computer Sciences and Engineering,
Petroleum Engineering, Electronic & Computer Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering. All the courses would have the four year
semester system, and successful candidates would be conferred AICTE
approved B Tech degrees.
In keeping with modern management
systems, the Dibrugarh University has taken to deploying the Management
Information System, which will integrate the administrative, academic,
examination and accounting systems.
The vice chancellor and the
university registrar, Dr Pradip Kumar Bhuyan said the university is
keeping its academic bouquet constantly updated to make its graduates
and post graduates retain their competitive edge and employability.
They said work is already on to introduce several more professional
courses for the benefit of the students of the northeast. These include
a proposed course in Petroleum Exploration Geophysics, PG courses in
Philosophy and Hindi, B P Ed (Bachelor in Physical Education). Other
proposals include introduction of courses relating to aviation,
avionics, hospitality and tourism, etc.
Dr Bhuyan said the
university is in correspondence with universities in the USA and
Germany for academic tie-ups for the benefit of the students. The
varsity’s deputy registrar (academic), Dr Rajib Handique said the
Dibrugarh University is all set to improve its NAAC credentials, given
the institution’s good overall performance and its readiness to offer
the students the best knowledge and education. A team of inspectors
from NAAC is scheduled to visit the Dibrugarh University later this
month.
