Foundation for Social Transformation-enabling north east india (FST) :

The North East of India is a colourful mosaic 

                      of rich natural and human resources, unique social and cultural 

                      practices of a variety of indigenous communities that inhabit 

                      the region. Despite this rich and varied diversity and tremendous 

                      potential for holistic progress, a large majority of people 

                      are economically, geographically and socially disadvantaged. 

                      Growing disparities over the years have exacerbated identity 

                      conflicts and further fuelled the socio-political unrest.


                    In order to address these issues 

                      and proactively contribute to the process of social transformation, 

                      a group of like minded people drawn from different walks 

                      of life in the region came together to brainstorm on strategies 

                      and the way forward.  This process, facilitated by 

                      the North East Network (NEN), a leading rights based organisation, 

                      resulted in the realisation of a definite and distinct need 

                      for a local institution and the consequent setting up of 

                      Foundation for Social Transformation – a foundation 

                      for enabling new and creative energies to socially transform 

                      the strife torn region.
VISION


                    Anchored on the principles of 

                      social and gender justice and a society free from want, 

                      fear and discrimination, the Foundation facilitates social 

                      transformation of the north eastern region of India through 

                      people’s active involvement and enables cohesiveness, 

                      dynamism, ingenuity and creativity of communities. 

MISSION

                    Invest in, support and promote the 

                        region’s abundant human, natural, cultural and creative 

                        resourcesEnable communities of the region 

                        to be owners of development processesPromote and support rights based 

                        approaches and gender equalityChannel youth energies and potential 

                        through creative activities to bring about constructive 

                        social transformation

                     OBJECTIVES

                    Strengthen the role of civil society 

                        to plan, implement and network on rights based programmes 

                        at the local, regional and national levelAdvocate for policy formulation 

                        and changes, to create participatory, inclusive, transparent 

                        and accountable governanceEnhance regional learning, experience 

                        sharing and build solidarity within and outside the region 

                      Promote leadership and new voices 

                        committed to peace, social justice and equity
