The malignancy of corruption,it appears, has spread to every nook and
cranny of our society--the high-and-mighty and low.It no longer
arouses revulsion within us and has become our daily bread and
butter.Strictly speaking, our conscience is dead and waiting to be
buried. The public,at large,is reconciled to corruption as a way of
life. The following news piece appeared in The Sentinel.

GUWAHATI, June 15: CBI sleuths today recovered Rs 13.45 crore from the
Six Mile, VIP Road residential complex (house No. 1) of Amjad Hussain,
a suspended employee of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and
brother-in-law of the prime accused in the multi-crore-rupee NC Hills
scam, RH Khan. The cash was found in gunny bags that were kept inside
the wall and the floor of Hussain’s garage and water tank. So huge was
the amount seized that the CBI sleuths, divided into 20 teams, had to
bring note-counting machines from banks to count the money.
According to CBI sources, they were conducting a search operation in
the house of Hussain since this morning and got the amount. The CBI
could seal the entire amount at 8 pm tonight, the sources said, adding
that they also raided the Tarun Nagar residence of Hussain
simultaneously, but found no cash there.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had issued charge-sheet
against RH Khan in connection with the multi-crore-rupee NC Hills scam
for drainage of development funds of the hill district to militants.
Khan was out on interim bail recently, but had to surrender again
following an order from the Gauhati High Court a few days back. Khan,
an official of the Social Welfare Department, is in jail at present.
