her brother is a wanted criminal responsible for over a 100 deaths.

**** JS, is it simply your opinion on moral high grounds or vehemence of
sentiments, or is it based on your idea about criminal law in India?
I cannot pretend to know much about criminal law. But, a charge-sheet by
'police' (CBI here) is perhaps neither a verdict nor does it have any
probative value. It is an accusation after all.

I have read in the papers that the police have extracted a statement from
Ranjan Daimary to that effect after relentless interrogation and he has
expressed his regret. I would not know the veracity or otherwise of that.
But the fact remains that confession before police is of no avail, as I have
read and have been made to understand by practitioners of that branch of
law.

In addition, not to mention use of drugs, torture to extract "confession",
even not letting one sleep for more than 72 hours in intimidating
circumstances would be enough to make one babble anything the inquisitors
want to hear.

BTW: I still have a hunch that the bomb blasts were orchestrated by people
in powers albeit by engaging some elements of an insurgent outfit, as in the
case of 'secret' killings. Because, the blasts left all the insurgent
organisations in very poor light. However, considering their records against
non-combatant public, all such outfits are capable of doing something as
foolish as this (Dhemaji bomb blasts for example) and tendering an insincere
public apology later.

>>>>>> The report says that lawyers will not represent him. Well, that is
not
right. No one accused of a crime ought to go unrepresented in court.

***** Ram Da, I agree with you. Today, some lawyers have defied the diktat
of their organisation. I would have been happier if a few so- called caste
hindu oxomiya lawyers had come up to help Mr. Daimary, because, Xobdo Rabha
from Rava community has become his counsel. The disparity in treatment meted
out by the lawyers, government and a section of the media, as between the
leaders of Oxomiya organisation ULFA on one hand and Sri Daimary on the
other, has created enough grounds in favour of the allegation about
the non-tribal Assamese apathy towards the tribal of Assam. This would
surely deepen a festering wound.
