[Assam] Military Solution

Sri Paresh Baruah has ruled out any discussion on sovereignty sans
independence through an e-mail to the media. If it is true, then, he has
committed himself to an irredeemable  military solution. Because, the
Government of India will simply not talk on that point; and so the only
option he has left the Government of India with is a military solution, in
so far as he and his supporters are concerned. And he has burned every
bridge to discussions/ parleys; and he cannot backtrack now if he has to
keep up with his non-compromising image.  I have not been able to figure out
why he is taking such a stance, as the situation appears to be not so
conducive to  his position. Unless of course he has an ace up his sleeve,
and banks on uniting with the Maoists or getting outside help.

As it seems to be a case for resolution through fighting, the people of
Assam may have to face acute difficulties in the days to come.

People at large can only wait and watch, as before, with resignation.
