 GUWAHATI, 
May 26 – Top positions of all the three streams eluded the 
Guwahati-based educational institutions as Gitika Talukdar of Baosi Bani
 Kanta College, Barpeta (Arts), Rajdeep Das of Ramanuj Gupta Junior 
College, Silchar (Science) and Prabir Ranjan Sarmah of Tezpur Govt HS 
School, Tezpur (Commerce) notched the respective top rank in the Higher 
Secondary Final examinations conducted under Assam Higher Secondary 
Education Council, the results of which were announced today at 11 am.

In fact, in Arts stream, not a single 
candidate from any of the city-based colleges could make it to the top 
five positions.The

 pass percentage of two premier colleges of the State – Gauhati Commerce
 College and the Cotton College (Arts) – have shown descending trend. 
However, in Science stream, Cotton College maintained a steady rise in 
the pass percentage.
The pass percentage of the premier Gauhati Commerce College 
dipped to 93.29 per cent from last year’s 96.79 per cent while the 
success rate in Arts stream of Cotton College too witnessed a slight 
fall from last year’s 96.17 per cent to this year’s 96 per cent. 

In Commerce stream, compared to last 
year when 11 students of Gauhati Commerce College featured amongst the 
top 10 position holders, only eight students could achieve the feat this
 year. However, there has been an increase in the number of first 
division and second division holders from the college.While Arts stream topper Gitika Talukdar
 scored a total of 454 marks with letter marks in English, Mass, 
Education, Logic and Philosophy, Anthropology and Economics, Priyanka 
Gogoi of Salaguri HS School, Sivasagar (448) and Nilakhi Baishya of 
Brilliant Academy, Mangaldoi (444) secured the second and third 
positions respectively in Arts stream.
Prabir Ranjan Sarmah, the Commerce stream
 topper, scored 430 marks with letter marks in English, Mass, 
Accountancy, Business Studies, Mathematics and Economics. The second 
position was bagged by Najuk Agarwala (426) of Gauhati Commerce College.
 Neha Bhageria of Dronacharya Academy, Howly, Rajat Jajodia of Gauhati 
Commerce College and Deepak Bucha of Darrang College shared the third 
position. 

In 
Science stream, Rajdeep Das with an aggregate of 462 marks (letter marks
 in English, Alt English, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology) 
topped the chart, while Gunjan Jyoti Bhuyan (458) of Cotton College 
bagged the second position. The third slot was shared by Spandan Jyoti 
Das of Cotton College and Upasana Sarma of Nowgong College.
While the overall pass percentage in 
Arts stream was 68.66 per cent, compared to last year’s 67.99 per cent, 
the Science and Commerce streams recorded success rate of 85.15 per cent
 compared to last year’s 80.23 per cent and 73.32 per cent compared to 
last year’s 72.11 per cent, respectively. Of the 1,66,311 candidates who appeared 
in the examination in Arts stream, 5263 of them secured first division 
while 17,711 candidates secured second division. Third division was 
secured by 91,220 candidates.
In Science stream, of the total 14,661 candidates who 
appeared in the examination, 4208 students grabbed first division, while
 second and third division were claimed by 6417 and 1859 students 
respectively.The

 Commerce stream candidates grabbed 1124 first division slots, 2807 
second and 6045 third division slots. A total of 13,606 candidates 
appeared in the examination.
In Arts stream, the flood-ravaged district of Dhemaji 
recorded a pass percentage of 85.19, the highest among all the 26 
districts, followed by Darrang with 80.31 per cent and Lakhimpur with 
74.40 per cent.Hailakandi

 recorded the lowest pass percentage of just over 42.	In Commerce stream too, Dhemaji 
outclassed all the other districts in terms of pass percentage recording
 a pass percentage of whopping 91.92 followed by Darrang (87.06 per 
cent) and Baksa (85.14 per cent).  Karbi Anglong secured the lowest with
 just 52.13 pass per cent. 

Dibrugarh recorded the highest pass percentage in Science 
Stream recording an overall percentage of 93.94, the highest amongst all
 the three streams. Dibrugarh was followed by Lakhimpur (93.53) and 
Karbi Anglong (92.13). Goalpara finds itself at the bottom of the pass 
percentage table with 68.65 per cent.
