Technical Communications Faculty Positions

Virginia Tech's College of Engineering anticipates filling up to three
tenure-track Academic Year (9-month) positions to support an initiative
in the area of technical communications instruction and research.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop an effective teaching
program and to pursue scholarly work, including externally-funded
research, in this subject area. Position duties will involve working
with departments within the college to enhance the communication skills
elements of their curricula and to provide some support for freshman
courses. Some summer teaching and/or advising may be available.
Appointments would begin in August 2004. Successful applicants will
have a terminal degree in English or communications studies or
engineering, or a related field. Degrees in both engineering and a
communications-related discipline are desirable. In addition,
experience working with engineers (in the engineering workplace or in
teaching) is desirable. Previous teaching experience at the university
level is desired. These positions will reside in the College's Division
of Engineering Fundamentals, which serves as home department for all
first-year engineering students and is currently being restructured as
the Department of Engineering Education, with the technical
communications area as one of the missions of the new organization.
Opportunities for collaboration with professional writing faculty in
the Department of English are available and will be strongly
encouraged. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2004 and
continue until successful candidates are chosen. More information on
the Division of Engineering Fundamentals and its mission within
Virginia Tech's College of Engineering is available at www.ef.vt.edu.
Virginia Tech has a strong commitment to diversity, and, in that
spirit, the College of Engineering seeks a broad spectrum of candidates
including women, minorities, and people with disabilities. Online
applications are encouraged. To apply online go to www.jobs.vt.edu and
