FELLOWSHIPS IN TECHNOLOGY, INSTITUTIONS AND GOVERNANCE 2004-2005

The National Center for Digital Government (NCDG) at the John F. Kennedy
School of Government is the pre-eminent research center in the United
States to focus on information technology, institutions, and governance.
The NCDG's mission is to build global research capacity, to advance
practice, and to strengthen the network of researchers and practitioners
engaged in building and using information and communication technologies in
government. A key part of this mission is to bring together and train the
next generation of social, information and computer scientists on the
governance challenges of the 21st century. The NCDG is therefore offering a
small number of NSF-funded pre-doctoral residential fellowships to support
dissertation research in the area of technology, institutions, and
governance.

ELIGIBILITY
Applications for pre-doctoral fellowships are welcome from those students
who have passed their general examinations prior to appointment. The NCDG
encourages applications from a range of disciplines and fields bearing on
information, technology, institutions, and governance. The NCDG also
encourages applications from women and minorities.

Fellows are expected to devote some portion of their time to collaborative
endeavors, as arranged by the appropriate program or project director.
Pre-doctoral research fellows are expected to contribute to the NCDG's
research activities as well as to make progress on - and ideally complete -
their doctoral dissertations.

STIPEND INFORMATION
NCDG Fellows will receive ten-month stipends of $20,000. In addition,
office space and supplies, computers with LAN and Internet connections, and
access to Harvard University libraries and other facilities will be
provided.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES and CONTACT INFORMATION
1. A 3 to 5 page double-spaced statement summarizing the dissertation
prospectus
2. A curriculum vitae
3. Three sealed letters of recommendation (not emails) attesting to the
applicant's scholarly promise and professional competence
4. A short writing sample pertinent to the application
5. A sealed graduate school transcript

There is no physical application to complete; the steps above constitute
the application process. The applicant is responsible for collecting all
materials, including letters of recommendation and transcripts and for
submitting them as one packet to the NCDG. Materials submitted will not be
returned to the applicant. Emailed materials will not be accepted, unless
specifically indicated by the Fellowship Coordinator.

The application deadline is March 31, 2004. Late applications will not be
accepted.
