I recall an article on a German study on this topic. It was published in New Media and Society in the last two years. Sorry, that's pretty vague but it may twig someone else's memory. Or you could just do a search through NMS on a e-database.

Subject: [Air-L] information on quality reviews (e.g. trip advisor)

Dear all,

Perhaps a somewhat change request here, but does anyone know about research
done on the impact of internet quality reviews (e.g. the reviews on
tripadvisor.com) on the actual purchase and price of products and services
on the internet?

Thank you very much in advance..

Regards,

Arjan van den Born
