The Department of Communication at the University of Memphis seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in health communication beginning Fall 2011.

We are especially interested in applicants who have experience conducting qualitative or mixed methods research in areas such as patient/provider interaction, public health communication, chronic illness, end-of-life care, women's health, children's health, or health communication and technology. A PhD in communication or a related field is required before the appointment begins.

Memphis boasts the largest healthcare network in the region, including two of the largest private hospitals in the country, a pediatric and adult trauma center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. The Department of Communication has a vibrant relationship with several of these hospitals and UTHSC, with ample opportunities for communication research.

The Department of Communication offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees, with specializations in rhetoric and applied communication, including health communication, at the doctoral level. Please see the Department's website at www.memphis.edu/communication for more information. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and contact information for three references online at workforum.memphis.edu. Review of applications will begin November 8 and continue until the position is filled.

The University of Memphis is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative
