On the wave of the vibrant multidisciplinary debate which has been
revitalized around McLuhan’s thought in the conferences, seminars and
various events organized worldwide for the McLuhan centennial (1911‐2011),
this journal aims to stimulate new reflections on the immense contribution
of this author and promote innovative critical work crossing national and
disciplinary boundaries. The purpose of The International Journal of McLuhan
Studies is to cover a wide variety of disciplines including Media studies,
Performing and Visual Arts, Linguistics, Literature, Intellectual and
Cultural history, Social Sciences, Educational Studies and Anthropology.

Under the scientific direction of Derrick de Kerckhove and Eric McLuhan, and
combining a more traditional paper issue with a digital variant, The
International Journal of McLuhan Studies aims at a hypertextual,
interconnected and “open‐ended” critical discourse. It will embrace
original research in the section “Messages” and provide space for other
kinds of publication: the section “From the Gutemberg Galaxy” will feature
book reviews, annual surveys of recent writing and unpublished material,
while the section “On Air” will include interviews with artists, writers,
and intellectuals. “Media ecology” will be dedicated to short notes,
review articles, assessments of recent noteworthy events and critical
surveys of important scholarly questions.
