Professor in Gaming Communication
The School of Communication at American University, Washington, D.C.,
welcomes applications for a tenure-line faculty position in gaming
communication at the rank of associate or full professor. Depending on
qualifications, the appointee to this position may be recommended for
tenure at the time of hiring.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader in gaming and public
engagement - the application of game theory, game design, and game
engagement mechanics to non-game contexts and challenges. Candidates
should have superlative skills in multimedia game design and
development, a track record of securing grants or venture capital for
video game production, and some academic experience. The candidate
should also demonstrate some combination of additional qualifications
such as a high-impact research agenda, gaming industry experience,
successful history of entrepreneurship, experience in advocacy gaming,
success developing innovative academic programs, and an outstanding
teaching record.
This faculty position is part of a long-term gaming initiative at
American University including the establishment of a state-of-the-art
research and production center focused on interactive gaming strategies
for more effective means of public engagement. Additional
responsibilities will include teaching and research supervision at the
graduate and undergraduate levels, mentoring students, and participating
in School of Communication and University governance. Candidates should
hold a Ph.D. or other final degree in the field as appropriate.
The position, which will begin in August of 2013, offers an opportunity
to work with the School of Communication’s world class faculty and
affords the unique professional, research, social, and cultural
opportunities of a top-ranked school and university located in
Washington, D.C.
