Hi all,
I am an undergraduate student in the U.S. studying free expression and
digital rights. I am developing a proposal for a year-long fellowship that
would allow me to travel to several countries (e.g. Russia, South Korea) to
study cross-cultural differences in online harassment and trolling. I’m
looking for region specific suggestions of factors to study and who to
interview.
For instance, were I to go to Russia, I could conduct a journalistic
investigation of troll factory employees.
If anyone could point me to relevant literature examining cultural
differences in online harassment (e.g. based on platform use like Facebook
vs Weibo or differences in access like cell phones vs internet cafés) or
researchers to contact, I would be very appreciative.
Best,
Daniel Bateyko
