[Air-L] Readings on "taboo online epistemologies"

Hello, AoIR community. I posted this request on Twitter but wanted to ping the listserv as well.

I have a student interested in studying what they call "taboo online epistemologies" - groups who organize online around controversial/false narratives. Initial work looked at Jan 6 truthers on Reddit, but this could also include anti-vaxxers, Q*non, etc.

Their interest also extends to more general controversial/risky knowledge production online, such as self-harm communities, crowdsourced sleuthing, hobbyists reconstructing CIA/drone flight paths, other forms of digital communities where open knowledge production is risky...

I'm gathering readings to help us both explore what's already been done in this space, identify best practices regarding methodologies, etc. Any suggestions are most welcome.
