Who: Dr. Claus Bossen, Aarhus University

Talk Title: Making Data-Work In Healthcare Visible

Abstract: This talk focuses on the people who do mundane data work. While data scientists have received attention as sexiest job in the 21st century, and data scientist programs have come up at many universities, other groups of people who work with data have received less attention. However, if we do not understand and know these people go about working with data, we will have an impoverished understanding of data and what it can do. The talk will focus on data work in healthcare, and draw on examples from Denmark and the USA including groups such as medical secretaries, clinical documentation improvement specialists and the Danish Health Data Authority.

Bio: Dr. Claus Bossen is professor at the Department of Information Studies, Aarhus University. With a background in anthropology he has researched the development and implementation of IT systems in healthcare drawing on Science-Technology-Studies (link)<https://pure.au.dk/portal/en/persons/claus-bossen(f989b328-ea2e-4b6f-b6c5-90d61465d153).html>

Nicholas
