Description:

The Digital Media (DIGM) program at the University of Houston seeks qualified candidates for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The preferred candidate must possess outstanding academic credentials that clearly demonstrate the ability to conduct successful research in emerging areas of digital media such as human computer interaction, user experience, social media, data analytics, game studies, and/or computer-mediated communication. The preferred candidate will be responsible for conducting an independent program of research while also teaching courses in the undergraduate program related to these topics and areas of expertise.

The DIGM program also teaches courses in print/packaging design, digital media production, and production management. Work experience in related technological fields is desirable. Additionally, this person will participate in program, department, and college committee assignments and in other activities related to the DIGM program and the rest of the campus. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023.

The DIGM undergraduate program in the Information and Logistics Technology Department, College of Technology, is a growing program with several production and research labs. Based in Sugar Land, Texas, the program is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Collegiate Graphic Communications (ACCGC) and serves over 500 undergraduate students. DIGM is committed to enhancing the diversity of its faculty to conduct research relevant to all parts of society. We pride ourselves in being a place where individuals from diverse backgrounds want to work to achieve innovative research outcomes and provide cutting-edge instruction to one of the nation’s most diverse student bodies. We thus encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive DIGM program by: (1) further diversifying the faculty and/or (2) demonstrating how they contributed to successful diversity-related initiatives and research; and (3) demonstrating interest in developing multicultural pedagogical solutions to address the needs of a diverse student body. Additional information about the program and department is available online at: http://uh.edu/tech/digitalmedia/ https://www.uh.edu/technology/departments/ilt/.

The College of Technology is the fourth largest college at the University of Houston, and one of the fastest growing. As a Carnegie-designated Tier One public research university, we are looking for highly dedicated scholars, researchers, and teachers who can also contribute to a nationally competitive externally-funded research program. Starting January 2023, the College of Technology will merge with the College of Engineering to bring better outcomes for our students and better opportunities for our faculty/staff to meet our research and service mission.

Following the vision of University of Houston (UH) President Renu Khator, the College of Technology is beginning its journey to Sugar Land. The College of Technology (CoT) building opened at UH at Sugar Land in 2019, featuring state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, and meeting spaces. A recent legislative session approved funding for a second CoT building at UH at Sugar Land. The expectation is that all CoT programs and departments will be at Sugar Land by 2025.

The University of Houston is a public research university that is located on a park-like campus a few minutes from the Houston city center. Houston is an international and multicultural city, and the University reflects this diversity. It is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, and it has been recognized as the second most racially and ethnically diverse research institution in the nation. In addition, the University is an ADVANCE institution, one of a select group of universities to receive National Science Foundation funds in support of our commitment to increase diversity and the participation and advancement of women faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
