Position Title: Assistant Professor of Critical Race and Digital Media

We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Critical Race and Digital Media, to commence September 1, 2023. The position is based at Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan, with the potential opportunity to contribute to the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx as well. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute pedagogically to the department’s undergraduate major in Digital Technology and Emerging Media, with potential to also contribute to the department’s majors in Communication and Culture, Film and Television, and/or Journalism. The candidate would also have an opportunity to teach in our M.A. program in Public Media, the interdisciplinary program in New Media and Digital Design, and other programs across the university.

Applicants are sought in the area of Critical Race and Digital Media Studies. The successful applicant will take a critical stance in their theoretical and methodological approach to understanding race and digital media, where critical implies a foregrounding of traditionally marginalized perspectives or a decentering of dominant structures, forms, aesthetics, and practices. Applicants’ approach to scholarship should be attentive to the mutual shaping of identity, culture, and technology and also the global historical shifts brought about by digitality in its infrastructural, political, geographical, and technological particularity. We are especially interested in interdisciplinary applicants whose scholarship and pedagogy engages the public in critical race theory and media studies through means such as policy, community-based learning, participatory research and design, or media production.

Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, or related area, with focus on race or traditionally marginalized communities in digital or social media
- Evidence of active and promising research and publication agenda
- Ability to teach a variety of courses designed to evolve our major in Digital Technology and Emerging Media and deepen our curriculum in diversity and anti-racism across the department
- Evidence of excellence in teaching
- Commitment to mentoring and advising students

Application Process:
Interested applicants should submit via Interfolio http://apply.interfolio.com/111366 <http://apply.interfolio.com/111366> (1) a cover letter with qualifications, including approach to teaching and scholarship; (2) curriculum vitae;
(3) 1-2 writing samples (approximately 30 pp maximum in total, solo-authored or first-authored); and (4) the names and contact information for three references. The deadline for applications is 11:59 PM on October 2, 2022. For specific questions, please contact the departmental administrator Michelle O’Dwyer at modwyer2 at fordham.edu <mailto:modwyer2 at fordham.edu>.
