[Air-L] [+RAIN Film Festival Barcelona] Research on AI Film Narratives 14 June 2023

Dear colleagues,

The Department of Communication and the Department of Information and
Communication Technologies of the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona are
organizing the +RAIN Film Festival, the first European AI film festival to
be held on the 14th of June 2023. +RAIN is co-organized with Sónar+D, in
collaboration with Runway and CCCB. The festival will be held in the Campus
de la Comunicació, in Poblenou (Barcelona), and will consist of 4 different
sections, being the RESEARCH conference the first one. This link

In the +RAIN RESEARCH conference, we will discuss the intersection and
complementarities between AI and media narratives, as well as about
critical questions such as authorship, copyright, creativity and ethics.

The preliminary conference programme includes the following interventions:

1. Keynote. Joanna Zylinska (King’s College London, UK). *AUTO-FOTO-KINO:
On Nonhuman Creativity*

2. Keynote. Andrea L. Guzmán (Northern Illinois University, USA) *Communication
and Authorship in an Age of AI: Where does Metaphor End and Reality Begin?*

3. Round table on the topic: *Narratives of AI: current trends and
opportunities for film production, new roles in cinema production and the
future impact on the media contents industry*.

Alonso

4. Round table on the topic: *Ethics and authorship in media and film
creation in times of AI*.

Speakers: Sara Suárez-Gonzalo, Patrícia Ventura, Albert Sabater, Víctor

5. Presentation of the project *Automating Cinema: A Materialist Approach
to Creativity in the Age of AI.* Speakers: Pei-Sze Chow and Claudio Celis
Bueno (university of Amsterdam)

Research Attendance. Official registration will be opened on our website by
mid-April. For further information, please contact the coordinators of the

free.

After the RESEARCH conference, we will have the opportunity to watch the
best AI films presented to our festival, and will discuss them with the
authors/creators that will be invited to come to Barcelona.
