Dear list,
I would like to share with you the open access book Radio Explorations
https://www.transcript-publishing.com/978-3-8376-7337-1/radio-explorations/
which presents an encounter between radio signal recordings, data
feminism, and experimental design, offering innovative tools and
fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
I argue that an intersectional perspective on information technology is
needed, to articulate relevant points of observing, experiencing and
being attentive to forms of social and environmental in/justice it may
perpetuate.
Radio signals incorporate nature and technology in a fascinating mixture
of engineering, environment and chance: poems, sounds, and all sorts of
messages are encoded and transmitted at large distances as
electromagnetic waves. With this book, I explore the cultural practices
related to radio communication and information technologies as technical
and societal domains. Contributors present post-disciplinary research
into the material, logical and onto-epistemological properties of radio
signals. These approaches to radio signals specificity and situatedness
expand the feminist materialist resistance to dualistic and universal
readings of the world.
The book is available open access from transcript:
