Recent advances in visual generative AI have made it increasingly easy to produce convincing synthetic images and videos, raising urgent questions about truth, trust, and perception in the digital age. To better deal with social and political effects of visual AI, it is imperative to develop visual AI literacy – the ability to recognise and evaluate AI images, understand the process of their creation and the biases it might involve, and use such images critically and responsibly.
To learn more about what is needed to foster visual AI literacy, join us at the online panel withNational Literacy Trust- the UK’s leading organisation to support children and young people’s literacy including AI literacy;Full Fact- a UK based team of independent fact checkers, using AI tools to combat misinformation; andTactical Tech- a Berlin-based, European non-profit organisation supporting digital literacy.
The panel is part of DISC (Digital Society) Research Group and its AI Literacies initiative, and is led by Dr Adi Kuntsman, Jessica Elias and Dr Sam Martin. It is part of the public engagement 2025 project, “Ahead of the AI’s misinformation curve: let’s talk visual AI literacy”, supported by AHEAD - Arts and Humanities Engagement And Dialogue) is the public engagement programme of theFaculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University.
