[Assam] LA Times: Women's clothing: Vatican's theocractic dictates to Catholic countries?

after discussing with the girl (woman) I realize that India now needs Marriage counsellors to bridge over the communication gap between the husband and wife. He didn't even tell her why he does not want to live with her anymore - told her parents only . She is confused and away from her home town - education cannot take the place of reason and common sense.

strange world, quite disturbing news. Just learned that the collegemate I mentioned from Hindu Institue of Management has separated from her husband (of unorthodox inter-religious marriage) and moved to another city six months ago- away from her hometown delhi. thankfully becos of her education she is working in a MNC bank in Bangalore.

1964: The Vatican banned bikinis in Catholic countries

I wonder which other theocratic nation (like Holy See or Vatican ) can have the guts to ban things in other nations - no wonder China is upset with Vatican's dictats.

  Any comments?

PS: I would add that it also shows that people's attitudes to clothing change slowly over time. In early 1990s I was surprised to see nearly ALL Delhi girls wearing "tight" jeans - which was a crowd puller in urban Rajasthan (even now in most rural India) - but has become much more common within city limits all over India -since. Even now, only whiteskinned foreigner women can roam around without fear in shorts. Though a female collegemate at Hindu Institute of Mangement turned up in 1995 summer - in Bermudas (knee length shorts) in semi-rural Sonipat near Delhi. A city crisis was averted when she was apprised of the tension which might follow - due to some local rustic youth chasing a young Delhi girl.

Ofcourse it is always a struggle to get perceptions changed. Attemps to ban jeans or mini skirts in some Delhi and Mumbai colleges is a case in point.
