Hi Majoj,

muga 'mekhela->chador' to wear on the wedding day, export drive may also
push up the price beyond >affordability range.

Forgive me, but that seems to be a strange argument. The idea of exports
(IMHO) is that such exports vitalize that industry or even bring in fresh
capital to other areas in the region.

As for the poor Assamese brides not beinga ble to afford, can also be
refuted on the grounds that large scale efforts would improve the overall
economic scene (including the poor brides).
That means that these brides would be able to afford the higher price.

But if (as you say) the trees themselves are at risk, then today's 55MT
would soon start dwindling in the years to come - unless some fresh capital
is injected into that industry (thru say exports) on agricultural research
to come up with better yield for the trees.
I am reaching here - but you catch my drift :)
