[Assam] December 15 Resolution of the State Legislature

Dear Indrajit,



I don't accept the common misconception ---- mischievously spread about us by the enemy to weaken us ---- that we the Assamese are "lazy and indolent people" ---  you yourself disproved this misconception when you rushed overnight to file the historic PIL at Guwahati High Court in April 1980 to stop the atrocities of Indira Gandhi --- 27 years ago. 

 

I request you file another PIL at Guwahati High Court (please let me know if I can be of any help) to invalidate the December 15, 2006 Resolution passed at the Assam Assembly (by a ridiculous voice-vote after preventing the demand for debate by the Opposition) to change the name of the State which is outside the mandate of the Assam Assembly.  



In addition to making an interesting news, this will give us time to discuss the topic in the universities, colleges, schools and and other institutions, arouse a massive public opinion followed by rallies and demonstrations, expose the hollowness and vagary of the current leadership of the Assam Assembly, and caution the Parliament if the matter is referred to them in the future. 

 

In the history, Lachit disproved the misconception of the Assamese as "lazy and indolent people" when he routed Mirjumala in Dikhoumukh in 1663 and Ramsingh in Saraighat in 1972. We must not forget that.

  I think it is the Parliament of India that is competent to change the name of a State, and not the State Legislature. Someone should think of moving a PIL in the High Court. It will make interesting news. 

  Whatever we may be called, we shall always the lazy and indolent people known as the Assamese, or will be the Osomiyas?
