When minority becomes the majority in an electoral district, the balance of power shifts. Election is only a part of democracy but in India it is a big part.
Tarun Gogoi or Golum Osmani - who will prevail over AICC? Looks like Osmani to me.

    AICC turns down Osmani’s resignation
>From Our Staff Correspondent
NEW DELHI, Dec 25 – AF Golum Osmani’s resignation may have the potential to throw minority politics in Assam topsy-turvy, but the AICC seems to be in no mood to oblige and has turned down his resignation. Highly placed sources said that the AICC was not going to accept his resignation and is contemplating to placate him by offering some post in the organisation ahead of the Assembly polls.

Confirming that AICC president’s political secretary Ahmed Patel has received his resignation letter, sources said they are not alarmed by the development as they had early warning of his probable move.

Osmani had yesterday faxed his resignation to Patel announcing his resignation from the PCC as well as from his Lok Sabha seat. The Barpeta MP had given notice to the party high command about his decision to quit following sharp differences with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The gulf between Osmani and the party has widened after his being sidelined in his own home turf.

He has been at loggerheads with the Congress leadership because it allegedly incited a group of Congressmen led by Chandan Sarkar, MLA, to take cudgels against him. The MP told this correspondent that things came to such a pass that even his entry into Bongaigaon district was banned by this group, because he dared to ask some uncomfortable questions.

Osmani felt humiliated when he was sought to be removed from the post of chairman of the minority department of the party.

Then there was the issue of the failure of the Congress leadership to implement the promises made in the Congress manifesto for the welfare of the minority community. The delay in rehabilitating the victims of the riots in Kokrajhar was one such case.

A minority leader of the Congress Party said Osmani by highlighting these issues aimed at becoming a hero among the minority community and that his threats may not be empty.

The leader said that they were closely watching his next move and the possibility of joining hands with the UDF could not be ruled out. Such a move by the minority leader has the potential to wreak havoc for the Congress Party in lower Assam. Osmani, who was once president of the UMF, had merged the Party with the Congress Party at the time of joining the party in the late 1990s.
