  Help is coming from all quarters -for thsi I am glad. From my mother in India and a going-to-be mother (a Chinese international student classmate from Harvard) and another one in Indonesia who runs an NGO www.serendib.us while working elsewhere to fund the NGO, further learnt about a website to get quick loans (no time this time but useful for later) www.prosper.com from a Chinese American harvard classmate - where college alumni (of US univs etc) can give you loans . 
   
  Further, yesterday my landlord and housemates helped me with quick loans to pay for the visa fees , since it would take 10 days for me to withdraw the $3000 my mother has deposited in my HDFC Bank acct in India @$300 per day (as per Indian limit of daily withdrawl @Rs 15,000 or $300) --and I needed to pay up the visa fees fast -so help from roommates. A Punjabi schooltime friend in NYC and another AssamNet member in US have been quick to help also. I am expecting some help from my cousin in NYC and schooltime friend in LA too -still might have to use the above mentioned website to take some loan to pay for my stay here till I can work in US on work visa (if and when it comes thru) -Oct , 2006 onwards.

  I have no reply to your observation re: involvement of high-ups in corrupt business practices. I know Tharoor only as an intellectual. You are in the States and possibly you know more about the UNO and its officials, in particular, their shenanigans. Kofi Anan (Is the spelling right?) himself was found in the dock recently. 
   
  Corruption is a broad issue;particularly in the context of Indian trade. Perhaps I would share my views with you and the netters some day.
