Alpana Baideu ,
This is slightly off the topic but I could not stop writing.
It was mid-eighties and I was traveling with some of my friends to Delhi by train. As the train entered the bridge over river Ganga , We noticed an elderly woman throwing coins to the river and worshiping Ganga. Observing her action, most of my friends started talking about Indians superstitious nature and consequent underdevelopment.
However , for that moment I did not feel like participating in that hot discussion. I was just watching the majestic river flowing through Himalaya to Indian ocean and that lady who worshiped the river as her mother. Sometime , someday we should relegate the logic and argument to background and let our heart speak.

Yes, I am still on the same topic, while everybody has gone foreward, as usual.
I believe I am a Hindu but very much believe in making a Samadhi. It is like a permanent earthly connection that you so desperately look everywhere for the departed one. Would "they" still let me stay a Hindu? Would I care? Would they take away the excruciating pain if I followed what they would want me to do? I would only care for my peace of mind when it comes to that.
But I do believe in soul connection - the ultimate connection. Is that part of hinduism, I won't know. I do believe in God, and yes, the form of Hindu Gods.
That is why my love for America grows, it lets me be, she lets me feel free.
And yes MKD, these are THE non issues, but related ones - from the heart. And your guess "Gandhiji would not have objected either" is most probably right ad it was Gandhiji who said: "The greatness of a Nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi.

<<<non issues...gandhiji wouldnot have objected either...mkd>>>
He would not have allowed anybody to capitalize with his picture or bust or Samadhi.
Hindus burn their dead and nobody marks their graves.
Islam bans these monument commodities.
Look at the atrocity called Gandh Mandap at Xoroniya!
I remember Chandan crying at the destruction of the beautiful hill in 1962-as a 16 year old!
