Job Factor

It has been seen that some vacancies in the Railway department require the applicants to be armed with certain other qualifications like diplomas in addition to the minimum university degree.
It is clearly stated in the advertisements published by the Railways that diploma holders will be given preference in the recruitment. To that end, diplomas in areas like rail transport and management are highly sought-after qualifications.
There is an abundance of institutes in different parts of the country which are engaged in providing such courses. But such training institutes are conspicuous by their absence in the Northeast.
It is clear that this has made it difficult for the youth of the region to get benefits of such training. In fact, for many of them it is an impossibility to venture out of their small villages and towns in search of jobs.
Besides, the distance also creates a communication gap, and most of the youth remain unaware of the technical courses that seem to be a must for securing jobs. All of this adversely affects the chances of the youth to secure good remunerative jobs in the Railways.
Introduction of such courses in the academic discipline of the region is the need of the hour if the youth are to be provided gainful employment.
The authorities of the North East Frontier Railway in particular should take up the initiative in view of the mandatory requirement of such qualifications in recruiting their personnel.
