Born on the 23rd Feb,1985 a talented youth pursues his dreams of putting colour and life on empty canvases and brings pride and hope to the Karbi village in Tezpur district of Assam he was born in.Ranjan Engti was never being schooled formally in art but he uses oil, acrylic and pastels medium to depict a distinct art style which had a "tribal" undertone which gets him very appreciation by all sections of critics and art connoisseurs. By the time he is in his early 20s the state government sits up , take notice and he was called upon to decorate the National Soccer Meet, 2002 .
In 2003 he arrives in Delhi to pursue History (Hons.) in prestigeous Hans Raj college of Delhi University and then onwards he had has been making his presence felt in the creative circle. Starting with being associated with "CURVES & SHADES" (art and music group) as its Asst. Director and thereon holding successive painting exhibitions in Delhi.
Hans Raj college History society "WAVES" awarded him the "Artist of the Year" ,2003.
The talented artist gets invitation from all kinds of platforms-
* Awarded scholarship to pursue a course "EX-IN" (Exterior-Interior Pvt.Ltd,New Delhi)
* With a record breaking performance Ranjan Engti in the 2004 college festival "Perception" by FAPS(Fine arts and photography society) , Kirorimal College , Delhi Univeristy won 7 awards out of a total of 12 categories like composition making, logo designing, collage making, tattoo making, t-shirt making, sketching and poster making.
* Invited to be the Creative head and Cover-designer for the Delhi based
monthly magazine "The Voice".
* Assigned as the Art Director for the short-film "Reverse Angle" .
* Assigned as the illustrator of the international online literary journal "Muse India"
The amateur painter started his exhibitions with the participation in the ABVP National Conference held in Gujarat, 2003. He then takes a professional turn holding a series of exhibitions -
* "North-East Painting and Photography Exhibition" held at Hotel Park (New
Delhi) on Dec.2007
* Painting and handicraft exhibition held at Gandhi Darshan,Rajghat by "National Legal Service Authority"
Govt. of India on Feb.2008
* Painting exhibition held in Shankar Lal Hall (Delhi) Sept.2007 ; Jan.2008
* Painting exhibition held in LTG Auditorium , Mandi House(Delhi) - 2004
* Painting exhibition held in Karnataka Bhavan(Delhi) - 2006
* Painting exhibition held in Tagore Hall(Delhi) - 2003 and 2004.
* Painting exhibition held at "Udipta Sara" art and cultural bhavan, Assam-2004
All his exhibitions were well received and covered by the media.
The vernacular newspaper from Assam "Mahajyati" in their issue of 30th June.2005 included Ranjan Engti in the converted list of "Important people of the contemporary time". His works are regularly covered by other Assamese daily like "Amar Asom", "Pratidin" and "Edin"
Mid-Day(Delhi) issue 27th Sept.2005 highly applauded the works of Ranjan
Engti done in Delhi through "Curves & Shades". In an article of Times of India, in 2005 the artist was appreciated for his contribution to the art and cultural among the student
faculty in Delhi.
Hindustan Times' daily supplement HT CITY on 5th April,2008 ran an article on Ranjan Engti describing him as budding artist from North East , here in Delhi , whose amateur work had a strong distinct base in "tribal painting" making him stand out of the crowd.
Ranjan Engti through his continued endeavor and contribution in the field of art kept the buzz alive in the successive years. In 2007 , Headlines India.com ; IANS ; newKerela.com ; Singlung news(.com) all went gaga over the young artist talent and endeavor. Such was the continuation of his appreciative work that Times of India in their 1st Oct.2007 issue revisited the artisit's exhibitions and covered it. His work was covered by ddinews.com, Total TV, NDTV Good Times and interviewed exclusively by ANI. Ranjan was also hosted by All India Radio in an interview regarding his works.
Being in the capital - Delhi, Ranjan definitely got a lot of exposure about the mediums, showcasing platforms and the market logistics of art form. He sold off many paintings at these exhibitions and almost becoming a brand name in some sections.
He was signed by an online art dealing company -" www.artistgallery4u .com" for a one and a half year contract for his paintings. Still trying to make space for his distinct art form in the art connoisseur circle, Ranjan however is very optimistic. The very popular artist who currently holds the converted elected post of "Cultural Secretary" of "Assamese Students Association Delhi" (ASAD) representing thousands of Assamese students in Delhi, when asked about his future plans the 23 year old replies with a boyish smile " Exhibitions will go on...I will take some time but I will reach the place where I dream to be".
