Poor ASTC bus service resented

DHEMAJI, Dec 15: The poor communication system has been creating a lot of problem for the people of flood hit Dhemaji district since a long time. Dhemaji being the head quarter of the district, people from various corners come to Dhemaji for different purposes. But due to poor communication system people happen to stay in hotels or in their relatives’ or friends’ houses for solving their problems spending extra amount of money which obviously pains the poor people. 
The distance between Dhemaji and Jonai, another subdivision of the ditrict, is 100 kilometers but the ASTC service between these two subdivisions is in a sorry state. There are only three old ASTC buses plying irregularly between Dhemaji and Jonai and due to this inconvenience the people coming from Jonai to Dhemaji and viceversa have to travel by Private buses with high fare. People of Jonai requested the concerning authorities several times but nothing has come up so far. Aso there is only one Dhemaji -Tezpur bound ASTC bus which runs at 6 a.m. from Dhemaji after which there is no bus to Tezpur. People urged the Transport department to supply more ASTC buses, one plying to Tezpur and another to Nagaon and two additional Dhemaji -Jonai bound buses which may lessen the miseries of the the people of this remote corner of the state. 
Moreover, the upcoming Axom Xahitya Xabha conferece in the first week of February,2009 will see people from different parts of the state coming to Dhemaji but due to these transportation inconveniences the delegates will definitely suffer.
