Delhi: The Central Government has approved the establishment
of an All
India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at Sarita Vihar, New Delhi as a Centre of
Excellence focused on fundamental research, drug safety evaluation,
standardization, quality control and scientific validation of Ayurvedic

The institute would also offer post-graduate and doctoral
courses in the aforesaid disciplines.

In a written reply to a question
in the Rajya Sabha today, Mrs. Panabaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Health
& family Welfare said that the institute will have a 200-bed research and

It would be fully functional
by the end of the Eleventh Five Year Plan i.e. by March, 2012.

When
fully functional, the institute will treat about 250-300 O.P.D. patients daily
in addition to IPD patients initially.
