23rd Guwahati Book Fair from today

 GUWAHATI, Dec 30 – The smell of new titles just out of the press would
be lingering in the 23rd Guwahati Book Fair of the Publication Board,
Assam which will begin tomorrow at the AEI ground here.

Many new
books published by the Board would be released at the fair and the
titles will include Religions of the North East and Rhythm in the
Vaishnava Music of Assam by Dr Maheswar Neog, complete works of
Jagweswar Sarma, Dimbeswar Neog, Hemanga Biswas, Prabin Phukan etc.

A
total of 66 new books and 46 reprints of the Board would be released in
the fair on different subjects like history, culture, children
literature, biography, novel, story, critical literature and science.

The
children literature titles include Sathar Bhangar Mel, Dukhan Ghar
Akhon Sotal, Meghalayar Subash, Tom Khurar Kutir, Padumonir Geet,
Uddipna, Tibettar Sadhu, Ajopa Goshar Kahini, Kon Kon Moinar Sadhu and
Imon, Kalyan Aru Pragyanhat.

Collection of some old magazines
would also be released by the Board. All the issues of Asom Pradipika,
the monthly magazine edited by Rajani Kanta Bordoloi from 1920 to 1921
and of the first monthly magazine for women in the State titled Ghar
Jeuti published from 1927 to 1931 have been brought out by the Board in
a collected form.

This time, a record number of publishing
houses and book sellers from across the country totalling around 115
would be participating in the 12-day fair. 

The fair will open every day at 11.30 am and will close at 8.30 pm. Entry is free for students.

The
organizers informed that cultural programmes would be held every night
at the ground and these would be presented by schools and colleges. On
January 4, the day set aside especially for children, art and
recitation programmes would be held for children.
