some might like to read the gory details (page 57) - how the train at Godhra station was brunt by throwing inflammable liquids from inside the compartment (and the culprits perhaps jumping out and escaping in the confusion) while people outside pelted stones to prevent the passengers from escaping.

Then read the gory details of the reaction that followed throughout Gujarat - with support of organized forces (Page 67 - Zahira Sheikh who gave witness later).

One can only imagine what must have happened when a thousand times this number of victims happened in 1947 (about 2 million) and entire trains were hacked -
