[Assam] Solar Panels

There is a lot of discussion about solar energy and solar panels these days.
Nowadays more Americans are looking into the possibility of using this
technology.
Some cost/benefit analyses seems to be the only thing making many hesitant.

But I was thinking, why solar power doesn't seem much discussed much in
India, and more so in Assam.
Couldn't the power shortage in Assam could to some extent be eased with
interest/investment in solar energy? Is it too expensive to contemplate in
India?

I, of course, don't know much about the technical pros & cons of this
technology, but I do think, this alternative should at least be vetted out?

Would be interesting to know if there has been some effort in this direction
in Assam?

This website sheds some light (no pun intended) on this issue. Companies
like BP are also invested in this.
