NABARD releases focus paper for Assam

 GUWAHATI, Jan 24 — In a bid to give a boost to agriculture and industry sectors in the State, The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural development (NABARD) has released its focus paper with a total credit potential of Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-09. The paper was released at a seminar held here today.

According to the focus paper Rs 886.38 crore and Rs 441.05 crore have been assessed for agriculture and industries sectors while Rs 897. 19 crore has been assessed for services sector. The policy paper also laid emphasis on agro and food processing sector.

It may mentioned here that the new industrial policy has focused on food processing sector keeping in view the potential in the region. The funds projection made on the basis of an indepth study made by the NABARD covering the entire 27 districts in the State. Now, the banking industry operating in the State will disburse funds as per the projection made by the NABARD.

The NABARD has been assisting the State Government for rural development. It has already sanctioned the financial assistance of Rs 1344.42 crore under rural infrastructure development fund (RIDF).

CK Gopalakrishna, chief general manager (CGM) of NABARD, presented the highlights of State focus paper and impressed upon the officials from the State Government and the banks to extend their full co-operation and support in full use of credit potential.

The seminar was also attended by Jayanta Madhav, Economic Adviser, Government of Assam, Sewali Choudhury, regional director, RBI, Guwahati and the heads of banks.
