**** I understand that all too well A. That IS an
important story to tell. But it is HOW you tell
it, in a movie, that makes the movie what it is.
Just because the story is important or well
written, does not make a movie worth remembering.

I have not seen Maatir tora . It may have been
done well. But judging from decades of
experience, I am not about to hold my breath on
it. More so since I saw Black, something that
was widely touted as something extraordinary, an
artistic gem. If THAT was extraordinary, then I
fear to ask what ordinary would be. It was cast
in a mold different from the usual Bollywood
kitsch. But just because it was DIFFERENT does
not make it superior.

It boils down to this: Bollywood moviemakers have
a long way to go in refining their craft . And
that would not happen until its consumers get
more discerning and demand better. And if those
who know better, join the chorus rah-rahing and
promoting the ordinary as something superior, are
not doing anybody any favors.
