I agree with Jugal 100%. Those children ARE exceptional. Uttam's noble work is to give them self-confidence and dignity and to be looked upon as any other child - without labels.
Only thing I would like to add is that when the school solicits funds, there could be an opening letter, explaining the facts that those children come from families that are poor. And unfortunately, that's how the society works, unless there is a lot of publicity about this situation, many don't step forward to help.
BTW, I would also like to point out that the library there has a name. It's called Nitin Bezbaruah Sarangapani Library. Too long to write? It's NBS Library.
When I initiated the project, Uttam (Teron) sponteneously told us that the name of the library would always remain NBS Library - in his words - Joon Beli jetialoi thaake, NBS Library ximaan-dinoloi thaakibo (As long as the moon and the sun exist, NBS Library will also exist). NBS Library is a vital part of Parijat Academy. Just like GU Library is Krishna Kanta Handique Library now-a-days.
BTW, Uttam and I agreed (in good faith) that even if the World Bank or some hot-shot world body donate a billion dollars for this library, it will still be called NBS Library. And as long as we are alive, we will make sure that this holds true. I'm sorry I had bring this up here in this fashion, but it's one of the most important things in my life now that the library's name be intact.
And yes, the picture gallery looks good. The classrooms look good, lot of work has been done since I saw it in July'08 and finally I feel humbled to be a part of this noble effort of so many people.
BTW, a librarian has been appointed for NBS Library at Parijat Academy and all efforts will be taken to make learning enjoyable through the resources of the NBS Library, for both students, teachers and other patrons.
So, All - living within and outside of Assam: Open your hearts, bring out your check books and donate generously to the NBS Library @ Parijat Academy - Remember, you are benefitting the children of Assam, and libraries can lift the spirit of an entire society.
For those of you who have already made donations, big or small, in cash or kind, I profusely thank you once again on behalf of the children of Parijat Academy. Assam needs people like you. God Bless.

It is very nice to see that the Parijat Academy are working selflessly to educate children who would otherwise be deprived of quality education. Many donors have been giving generously to the school and the school is using the money received to good use. The faces of the children learning eagerly, their teachers and the buildings, however humble, all point to this extra-ordinary project. Congratulations to all those who are involved in this exemplary work. I have one request to the school authorities: Please remove the words 'A School for Underprivileged Children' from the signs at the school. Everyone, including every child enrolled at the school, knows that the children are underprivileged. The children, their parents and their relatives don't have to reminded of their underprivileged status every time they walk past those signs. It would be nice to replace the phrase by something like 'A School for Exceptional Children' or something else that connotes the positive attitude extant at the school.Thanks!Jugal--- On Wed, 9/3/08, Vavani Sarmah <vavani at yahoo.com> wrote:> From: Vavani Sarmah <vavani at yahoo.com>> Subject: [Assam Society] Invitation to view Vavani's Picasa Web Album - Parijat Academy> To: 'FriendsOf NE' <friendsofassamne at yahoogroups.com>, 'ASA ASA' <AssamSociety at yahoogroups.com>, 'AANA' <aanaonline at yahoogroups.com>, northeastindia at yahoogroups.com, 'FASS GB' <FASS-General-Body at yahoogroups.com>> Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 9:14 AM> Please see recent photos of my visit to Parijat Academy.> > Thanks> Vavani Sarmah> Seattle, USA> > http://picasaweb.google.com/microsoftblue/ParijatAcademy > > > > > > > > > You are invited to view Vavani's photo album: Parijat> Academy> > > > > > > > Parijat Academy> Guwahati, Assam - > Aug 28, 2008> by Vavani > My visit to Parijat Academy > > View Album > Play slideshow > > Message from Vavani:> Please see recent photos of my visit to Parijat Academy.> > Thanks> Vavani Sarmah> Seattle, USA> If you are having problems viewing this email, copy and> paste the following into your browser:> http://picasaweb.google.com/microsoftblue/ParijatAcademy > To share your photos or receive notification when your> friends share photos, get your own free Picasa Web Albums> account.
