Subject: FASS Team to Join Gandhi Peace WALK in Australia
Friends:
Congratulations to Jayanta, Uttam and Biju for their personal determination, commitment and sacrifice to make it happen. This is a very exciting news for all of us in the North East India and for all the friends of Assam and the Seven Sisters. Needless to say, the participation of 3 members from the North East India in the WALK in Australia will not only bring an awareness of Gandhi but also will bring an awareness of North east India in Australia and will boost the positive image of North East India around the world. Jayanta Barman is also one of the Co-Coordinators of the M.K. Gandhi Awareness along with Garvin Brown who is now well-known to the people of Assam from his 'padajatra' in Guwahati in March of this year. Thus this is a reciprocal visit from the people of North East India to join in the WALK in Australia which will be led by Garvin Brown. The FASS team comprises of Jayanta Barman, FASS India Vice president, Uttam Teron,
founder of Parijat Academy and Office Secretary of FASS-Guwahati, and Biju Borbaruah, FASS Member and Managing Trustee, Asha Darshan. The FASS team will in fact represent India in this WALK where people from other countries will also participate. The 5 Day WALK will start on 17th September and will cover a total distance roughly about 73 Km from Caboolture to Brisbane. Detail schedule and itinerary of the WALK may be found in the attached Press Release from Garvin Brown in Australia.
We thank Garvin Brown for organizing and hosting the WALK. Along with the team members, we also thank our FASS USA members, Ankur Bora and Partha Gogoi, who made significant personal contributions to make the event possible. We also thank Mr. Kamalesh Goswami, Mr Hemanta Doloi, Rangam Rajkhowa and other NEIs in Australia who have contacted us welcoming the team with offer of their personal help and cooperation to the visiting team during their trip. It is possible that the team may also visit Sydney and do another symbolic WALK there. We will keep you posted of the progress of the WALK as it will happen in Australia. FASS is also planning to prepare a website where all the information about the WALK will be posted.
In order to make the WALK more meaningful for the North East India, Ajanta and I would like to take the opportunity and make a personal pledge as follows:
THE PLEDGE:
We pledge to donate Rs. 125.00 for each kilometer to be walked by each team member in Australia. Thus the total distance of the WALK being 73 km for each member, the total distance to be walked by team will be 219 km. Our pledge will be Rs.125 for each of 219 km for total Rs. 27,375.00.
This pledge is being made on the following basis:
a) We will donate the money through FASS Guwahati Account.
b) We would request FASS Guwahati office to distribute the money equally among the five venture schools in North East India as noted below:
1) Parijat Academy, Pamohi
2) Pragyalaya, Titabar
3) Auxilium Umpohilew Jingsted, Nogpoh, Meghalaya
4) Asha Darshan, Tamulpur
5) Siddhartha Kendra Vidyalay School, N. Lakhimpur
If anyone is interested to make any amount of pledge in Indian Rupees for the schools, they may do through FASS, Guawahti. If anybody wants to donate money in US Dollar or other Foreign Currency, please let us know. We will handle it through our FASS USA office.
Best Wishes to the team.
Best wishes for this historic WALK.
