Foundation stone for first NE Food Park laid


Nalbari (PTI): Assam Chief Minister
Tarun Gogoi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for north-east's
first, and India's third mega Food Park at Nathkuchi in Assam's Nalbari
district. 
The Mega Food park would strengthen and
optimise the alignment of the supply chain from 'farm to plate' and
leverage investments of about Rs 250-300 crore in processing units in
the park, Gogoi said. 
It would create an employment of around
30,000 and provide an extra income to farmers in these areas by at
least 15-20 per cent. 
The park would focus on safety and
quality of the food supply chain and catalyse the food processing
sector in the state, he said. 
Wastage along the supply in the catchment area would be reduced by at least 15-20 per cent. 

The park would make safe and healthy
food available to the consumers and enhance the international
competitiveness of processed and value-added food products, CM added. 
While talking about economic growth, he
claimed that the growth rate has increased from 1.8 per cent to 8 per
cent during the Congress rule.
